Course Description:
This course is a survey of painting, architecture, and decorative art of the early modern period in France. The purpose of the course is to understand artistic innovation that characterizes French art from the Renaissance to the French Revolution, and to situate the works of art within their historical context by examining the social currents and the power of the sovereign that contributed to their creation.
