Course Description: From the end of the 1970s to today, the importance of religion as a key element in understanding society and culture has increased. At the same time, the impression that religion is difficult to understand has become much stronger. In the first place the concept of religion itself is a controversial concept in the academic circles. This lecture-based course considers the current state of religion in contemporary society, especially in the context of (de-)secularization and globalization, which is a much-discussed topic in the sociology of religion.
