Course Description: This course is a rare opportunity to study contemporary challenges and opportunities faced by Japanese enterprise through a series of lectures by senior executives. Through a different firm example each week students gain insights into how a range of industries have evolved in Japan, and their strategies and difficulties in responding to intensifying global competition, difficult economic times at home and abroad, and technological and social change. Upon completion of the course, students should have familiarity with contemporary business conditions faced by firms of Japanese origin, or of foreign origin operating in Japan. Assessment: final exam (50%), attendance and active participation (20%), and group presentation workshop (30%).
