Course Description: This course examines main factors in the development of modern Japan since the Meiji Restoration. Students analyze how spaces such as cities, landscapes, and buildings have changed in 150 years of modern Japan focusing on Tokyo, and discuss major historical events and relationships between the spatial changes and modern Japanese history. Assessment: class attendance and participation (40%) and final exam (60%).
