Course Description: This courses focuses on issues of violence and abuse with a focus on both the victims and the perpetrators. Topics include theories of violence; childhood experiences, attachment, the bonding cycle, and how these impact behavior later in life. The course also looks at gangs, spousal abuse, child abuse and neglect, stalking and other types of crime currently prevalent in society. Some attention is also paid to treatment of victims as well as perpetrators of violence, and issues relating to prevention. Assessment: assignments (30%), attendance (10%), final exam (60%).
