Course Description: This course provides an overview of the theoretical foundation and the fundamental principles of the development and management of non-governmental organizations. It is designed to help students acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies to actively participate in the management of non-governmental organizations that work within their communities. Topics include the role and function of non-governmental organizations in society; theories underpinning their operations; steps leading to their formation; historical perspectives; strengths and weaknesses; their relationships with governmental agencies, local community members, business organizations, and international development agencies; funding sources; and gender mainstreaming in NGO development.
