Course Description: This course explores the American political system and formulation of foreign policy. Students consider how foreign policy is made through the interaction of executive, legislative, and judicial branches, and with other elements of civil society. Special emphasis is placed on the post-Cold War period. This course examines the influence of domestic politics on US foreign policy, and how the US system copes with the apparent contradictions between its ideals and the imperatives of global power.
