Course Description:	The course introduces the general concepts and complex theories of rural development in Sub-Saharan Africa. It looks at the history to examine the major ideas that have governed rural development policies and reasons for slow growth of the rural economy. The course analyzes explanations for continued high levels of poverty in rural Africa. Contemporary debates on the direction of rural development strategies are examined showing new challenges for rural development policy makers and practitioners.
