Course Description:	This course introduces the philosophical thought of both the sages in traditional African cultures and contemporary academic African philosophers. It sets out by exploring the question of philosophical thinking in traditional African cultures and proceeds to examine issues such as the supposed distinction between philosophy and 'ethnophilosophy', examines such concepts and questions that have engaged the attention of African philosophers as: the existence, place and role of God; the relationship between the individual and society; views of morality and their foundations; knowledge, truth, and the relevance of traditional philosophical thinking for life in contemporary Africa.
