Course Description: This course provides basic skills for conversation, reading and writing, and the ability to use Japanese in social and public situations relevent to college life. The course provides understanding of everyday conversation and the ability to communicate in simple and routine tasks on familiar topics. Course outcomes: read about 280 kanji and short texts and grasp the gist, and write about 170 kanji and simple paragraphs on familiar topics. Assessment: attendance, participation, homework assignments, and quizzes (50%), tests and final exam (50%).
