Course Description: This course enhances listening, speaking, writing, and reading comprehension skills through learning topics on Japanese society and culture. It provides learning strategy to become more independent learners. Emphasis is placed on listening and comprehension of the main ideas of such things as TV news, radio news and films, as well as reading and comprehension of the main idea and structure of written texts using background information. Outcomes: express abstract contents, summarize and give opinions in writing, and discuss given topics and give presentations in an appropriate manner, read about 900 kanji, produce about 650 kanji, and write emails, composition, and reports using proper expressions and structures. Text: ICU CHUKYU NIHONGO 2 by International Christian University. Assessment: attendance, participation, homework assignments, and quizzes (60%), test and final exam (40%).
