Course Description: This course is the second stage of beginners' course of spoken and written Japanese. It is equivalent to joint “J2: JAPANESE” and “J3: JAPANESE”. Eighteen class hours/week. Prerequisite: “J1: JAPANESE” or equivalent. This course provides opportunities to acquire basic skills for conversation, reading and writing. Students’ goal is not simply to study the grammar and vocabulary, but to acquire the ability to use Japanese accurately and appropriately with increasing spontaneity in social and public situations relevant college life. By the end of this course, focusing on social and public situations relevant to college life, students will be able to: Listening: follow the everyday conversation and understand speaker's intention/mood as well. Speaking: deliver a brief speech with notes. Reading: read about 400 Kanji, and read on even if there are unfamiliar words. Writing: write about 250 Kanji, and write comments and descriptions of events and facts. Assessment: Final Exam and Tests 50%, Continuous Assessment 50% Textbooks: JAPANESE FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: Basic Vol.1-3 by International Christian University.
