Course Description: The course explores the complex relationships between religious and political powers in Morocco. Topics include: the relation to political power and its interface with the religious dimension, dynastic heritage, after effects of the French Protectorate, and nationalistic and post-colonial excitement. The course uses dating to understand key political challenges in contemporary Morocco, from 1912 to present day.
