Course Description: This course explores major elements and characters in Japanese intellectual history from Tokugawa Period till modern days, designed to further knowledge and understanding of the progression of Japanese thinkers' ideas about Japanese identity and present various historical figures who have had impacts in the intellectual field. The course also examines the complicated interplay between Japanese traditions and modern Western thought.
