Course Description: This is a graduate level course that is part of the Laurea Magistrale program. The course is intended for advanced level students only. Enrollment is by consent of the instructor. Students who write a term paper on a pre-approved topic receive one extra unit. Maximum units for the course is 6. The course focuses on the main historical and critical questions posed by authors and texts of contemporary Italian literature. Special attention is placed on the central critic debates as well as the different methodologies employed in textual analysis. The course focuses on a comparative approach highlighting techniques used to present local and global dimensions. Special attention is placed on the relationship between the novel and new media. The topic of the 2018-2019 academic year is: Italian literature in the context of world literature. The course includes power-point materials, movies and documentaries for the contextualization of the assigned readings. The course also includes a series of guest speakers. Assessment is based on a final oral exam designed to evaluate critical and methodological ability. Students are expected to demonstrate appropriate knowledge of course materials and assigned readings.
