Course Description: Information and communication processes in social systems and support of these processes by means of ICT are key topics in the field of information science. These processes are studied from both a scientific and a design perspective. To this end, it is important that students have an understanding of scientific methods and research and data analysis. In this module, students learn which research method to use, which methods for analysis go with it, and how to report the results. The course follows the empirical cycle: problem formulation; various research methods; different methods of analysis; description of results and reporting. In addition to knowledge about various methods of scientific research, attention is paid to basic knowledge of inferential statistics, and how to work with the statistical software package SPSS.
