Course Description: Following Second World War, Germany faced a series of drastic changes. The course deals with those changes and the effects thereof, specifically the division and later reunification of Germany; the Westernization and Liberalization of Germany; economic booms and crises; concerns of stability, continuity, and security; societal change; Germany in the wake of Hitler and the Nazis; and debates in Germany over national identity, society, and culture. The course covers concepts of the formation of history and the present, examples of paradigmatic history, challenges and advantages of studying recent history, and the methods of historical study.
