Course Description: This seminar focuses on some of the major thinkers on the African continent. It examines the seminal thoughts that form the wider context of the business of creating literature in Africa, and discusses the intellectual and cultural agenda posed by such thought. The course also provides an in-depth study of the major movements and periods, such as the Harlem Renaissance, and a small set of seminal or canonical works by major writers in African literary history.
