Course Description: This course explores Japanese literature, specifically the literature set in Kyoto. It closely examines every word and phrase used in the works, explains the Japanese culture and customs behind the works and aims for the students to understand Kyoto literature both with the mind and heart. Students learn about the historical background of the works, discuss the relationship between society and literature and develop a deeper understanding of Japan. They also enrich their Japanese language skills though reading, comprehending, thinking and exchanging opinions about the literary works in Japanese.
