Course Description: This course examines the link between history and music. Opera, which was born and developed in Italy and went through the Golden Age of Opera, when it became the major entertainment for Italian aristocracy. Opera, after winning powerful patrons, kept refining itself and produced so many talented composers. The course focuses on these composers, showing videos of representative opera. Methods of singing, as well as the function of orchestra, stage director’s works and costumes are closely examined. Assessment: exam, class participation.
