Course Description: This course studies concepts in major religions in the past and present world and some important classic and recent theories of religious studies, such as theories of phenomenology of religion, and sociology of religion, to understand features and functions of religions in the past and present world. The course contains both lecture and discussion and discussion topics include: Max Weber’s theory of Charisma, Structure of Judaism and Islam, Indian religions and Chinese religions, and Structure of Christianity and Secularization. Assessment: final paper, short paper, presentation, and attendance and participation.
