Course Description: The course introduces students to the phonology and script of Modern Standard Arabic and covers the basic morphology and syntax of the written language. Emphasis is placed on the development of the four (reading, listening, speaking and writing) skills at the earliest stages. The various aspects of modern Moroccan culture and society provides contexts for the language learning process. In addition to classroom instruction time, students in the Beginning II level course are expected to participate in content-based learning activities. These activities further students’ exposure to Modern Standard Arabic and allow for greater retention of new vocabulary. These activities are graded on a participation basis and include workshops, excursions, and group discussions.
